A contingent of St. Wolfgang's members went to Dayes of Olde Festival (aka Oregon Renaissance Festival) in Salem Oregon the weekend of Aug. 25 & 26. This year, once again, the weather gods cooperated and a sunny weekend was enjoyed by all. Here is a report from the duchess of Bavaria herself. DAYS OF OLDE My husband, the duke of Bavaria, was away fighting yet another battle and all was quiet at the castle. I desired to add some festivity to the doldrums of the day. I knew the villagers were having a festival and thought it would be a perfect opportunity for a picnic. I would order the household to attend! Everyone from my husbands brother, Baron von Holstein to the lowliest gypsy would join in! It would be a marvelous weekend. I was practically laughing as I went to make the announcement to the household. And then....THE CHILDREN WOKE UP! The girls, MariaAnna and Maximilliana and the boys, Willhelm and Ernst started picking fights with each other immediately. I was sure a picnic would enable them to work off some of that excessive energy! We packed everyone up and headed to the village! The scene was most festive! There were bards regaling us with the latest works from Master Shakespeare, magicians marveling us with their trickery, and knights jousting and foot fighting. The merchants were doing a lively business and all of the sights, sounds and aromas were marvelous. We paraded through the village greeting the villagers (and we only had to have the guards separate the children two or three times! They were definitely on their best behavior). I sent everyone off to enjoy themselves and expected to have a peaceful and relaxing weekend. It would be so relaxing...or so I thought. Pray attend and you will see from the following portraits that it was anything but relaxing! From wenches attacking my guards on the streets, to the Abbott having to give impromptu baptisms and baths (Humphrey and Harold, the village hunchbacks, were in attendance), it was a memorable weekend INDEED!
