Well, once again, the members of St. Wolfgang's Bavarian Guild travelled to Sherwood, Oregon for the Robin Hood Days celebration on July 16th and 17th.
This was our fifth visit to their fair city - the 51th anniversary of the festival. Boy, what changes Sherwood has gone through in those fifty years, growing from a sleepy farming community to a thriving suburb of Portland, being the fastest growing city in Oregon throughout the 1990's.
But, they still hold to their old traditions and the Robin Hood Days is high on the list. To celebrate their 50th, they hired St. Wolfgang's and the Olde World Puppet Theatre to create and present a new puppet show featuring the legends of Robin Hood. This year, we trained the Maid Marian Court to present the show all by themselves. We recorded a soundtrack for them, so that they could perform the puppets without worrying about the voices.
The show designed by Dan DeMoy, written by Steven Overton and Bill Holznagel, and built by the members of St. Wolfgang's.
The rod puppets and the background sets are constructed of colored corrugated plastic, made to look like stained glass windows come to life.
This year, we also designed and oversaw the reconstruction of the new Robin Hood Festival Information boot. It came out looking much better as it sits at the crossroads of the festival.
Also we helped design and build some new plywood flats of Knights on Horseback to replace the older ones that had seen better days.
It was good to be back together as a guild, once again, with both old and new friends,
Congratulations to Phil, Alice, Mike, John, and the rest of the Sherwoodians who put on such a great festival.
