July 31 & August 1 found us at the Gig Harbor Renaissance Faire and Gothic Fantasy in Gig Harbor Washington. Present from St. Wolfgang's Bavarian Court were the Duke & Duchess of Bavaria, Queen Mary of Scotland, and their respective courts. We also had the Monks and Bishops, gypsies, Humphrey the Hunchback, and the mad cooks.
We presented Three Billy Goats Ruff, a retelling of the old Scandinavian legend from the Trolls point of view, once and for all setting the record straight on this fabled story of old.
Also in attendance were the great war horses of the Seattle Knights, with their pounding hooves charging down the list, carrying armored knights jousting for king, queen, country, or the hand of a fair maiden. The ring of clashing steel shattered the tranquillity of our 16th century village.
Ye Merrie Greenwood Players, co-sponsors of this year's faire, had a large encampment with non-stop entertainment featuring their living chess board, dancers, singers, musicians, and jugglers,
The Faire was held at the Minter Creek Ranch in Gig Harbor, a first year site for this second year fair. The site was as perfect as the weather, with lots of parking for visitor's cars and lots of space for the players' encampments and events. A large number of vendors and food merchants helped provide the ambiance of a Renaissance village.
Ron Cleveland, the organizer of the Gig Harbor Renaissance Faire, is to be congratulated for a great job in making this faire the success and magical event that it was.
