The second weekend of the Gig Harbor 2000 Renaissance and Fantasy Faire was August 12 & 13. After having recovered from the wedding celebration, the Duke and Duchess of Bavaria hosted not one, but TWO of the most distinguished & beautiful Queens of 16th century Europe. Her most royal highness, Elizabeth I of England, and Mary, Queen of Scots, both graced the royal court. The challenge to the Bavarians was to keep the two queens apart, as they never actually met. It kept everyone on their toes, until, alas, at the end of the final joust of the day, the two queens met on the field of battle. Mary, to claim what she thought to be her rightful throne, and Elizabeth, to defend the crown she already wore. The crown was to be decided by a battle. Not a battle of weapons (that could hurt!), but by the most honorable "Tug of War". Those who sided with Mary joined her side of the rope, and those who were for Elizabeth, joined her. They pulled, and they tugged...the battle was fierce! "Who won?" you may ask. Let us just say that we all won for being witness to such a historic occasion. Once again, we were entertained by the Seattle Knights and a wonderful puppet show. This time we were joined by the audience in the rousing story of "Three Billy Goats Ruff". Much fun was had by all. And much shopping, as we all enjoyed the many vendors who circled the fair, and the ongoing entertainment at the various stages. Much thanks and a Grand Huzzah! to Ron Cleveland for a great time at a terrific faire.
