A grand celebration occurred at the Gig Harbor Renaissance Faire and Gothic Fantasy in Gig Harbor Washington, the weekend of August 5 & 6, 2000. It was the reception following the marriage of Renata of Lorraine (said to be a descendant of Charlamagne) to Prince Wilhelm V of Bavaria. The joining of two of the greatest households in 16th century Europe! The original party lasted two weeks...ours, just two days. But, oh, what a celebration it was. The bridal couple was presented with gifts from the Duke and Duchess all the way down to the household staff. They were honored with battles by the Seattle Knights with their horses' pounding hooves charging down the list, carrying armored knights, and a Fantasy Joust, presented by the Duke's staff. Even the Monks and Nuns had a grand time playing games! Much celebrating occurred! We even had an authentic luncheon (charred over an open fire!). In the afternoon, the royal family was entertained by the puppet show "The Pretzel Crossed Lovers" presented by our multi-talented monks & one Bavarian maiden. It was a weekend we will never forget! Ron Cleveland, the organizer of the Gig Harbor Renaissance Faire, is to be congratulated for a great job in making this third year faire the success and magical event that it was.
