For several years, St. Wolfgang's has featured the rod puppet show, The Pretzel Crossed Lovers -- The Agnes Bernauer Story in our faire appearances. Here is the synopsis of the story: Drift gently back through time with us for this comic and yet tragic tale of forbidden love between Crown Prince Albert III Wittelsbach of Bavaria and Agnes Bernauer, the enchanting Augsburg barbers daughter. From the silent stillness of the fifteenth century tomb chapel to the bubbling depths of the blue Danube, follow our pretzel-crossed lovers as they dare to challenge the traditions of love and marriage between the social classes of their time. This famous German legend weaves this most beloved story of life, love, and death into a well-remembered experience for young and old alike. Although it certainly does not have a they lived happily ever after ending, there are timeless lessons to be learned from the story. Well, that's all well and good, but this year the guild decided that they wanted to do the play with live human actors and not puppets. The pictures on this and the next page give testimony to the results. You will notice that the actors sometimes suddenly appear in different costumes. That's because we filmed both the Saturday and Sunday performances, and we wanted the pictures to follow the story. Click on any image below and it will magically get larger.
